One Roof, One Chain of Custody: Introducing Vortex Circular Solutions

The first post in our Knowledge Hub — who we are, what we do, and why we built it this way.
Welcome to Vortex Circular Solutions.

The problem we were built to solve

Ask most organisations what happens to their IT equipment at end of life and you'll get a vague answer. A collection company takes it somewhere. Somewhere else wipes it. A third party might recycle it, or might not. A certificate arrives weeks later with numbers nobody can trace back to anything.

That's not a failure of intent. It's a failure of structure. Fragmented supply chains mean multiple providers, limited visibility, inconsistent reporting and — almost always — value left on the table.

Meanwhile the pressure is going the other way. Reduce waste. Evidence your ESG progress. Strengthen governance. Recover more from the assets you've already paid for. You can't do any of that credibly when your asset lifecycle is spread across four suppliers who don't talk to each other.

Vortex Circular Solutions exists to fix that. Collection to final recovery, under one roof and one chain of custody.

‍ ‍

What we actually do

We manage the whole lifecycle. Not a slice of it.

Collection and logistics. We own our fleet and we employ our drivers. That matters more than it sounds — it means your assets and your data never pass through a subcontractor we can't vouch for. Everything is tracked in real time, giving you 100% chain of custody from the moment we arrive on site. We handle de-installation, on-site data destruction and collection as one job.

Processing and refurbishment. Data sanitisation first, always. Then testing, grading and segregation, followed by restoration and repair to extend asset life. This is where equipment stops being a disposal problem and starts being a recovery opportunity.

IT Asset Disposition. Takeback and revenue share, buyback and trade-in, parts harvesting, resale, trading and e-commerce. Our network is what unlocks a second life for assets that still have one — and the value that comes with it.

Reuse, repurpose, recovery and recycling. Where reuse isn't viable, we go after everything else: component harvesting, bulk recycling, sortation, precious metal recovery and rare earth material recovery. Recovery first. Landfill isn't part of the plan.

Measurable ESG outcomes. Enhanced, transparent reporting showing real-world results rather than stated intentions — the kind of evidence that stands up against your UN Sustainable Development Goal commitments and your governance obligations.

Who we work with

Organisations with large-scale IT infrastructure, across every sector: corporate and manufacturing, utilities and infrastructure, the technology and IT sector, and public sector, healthcare and retail.

Our team's contacts and network let us deliver at scale across the UK and Europe, with reach extending into EMEA and the US.

‍ ‍

The experience behind it

Vortex isn't a start-up finding its feet. It's a collective of experienced leaders from the world of circular tech who'd already spent years working across different arms of the industry — and kept crossing paths.

Our leadership panel is chaired by Stephen Graham (Chair, VCS Group), with JP Doble as Group CEO and Darren Hunt as Managing Director of Vortex Circular Solutions.

Between them, the management panel brings deep experience across:

  • Circular economy programmes

  • Reverse logistics

  • Asset lifecycle management

  • Supply chain operations

  • IT asset management

  • Sustainability and ESG programmes

  • Refurbishment and value recovery

  • Environmental compliance

  • Governance and reporting

  • Operational transformation

  • Business consultancy

We'd all seen the same gap from different angles. Vortex is what happens when you get to design the answer from scratch, working beyond industry approved standards rather than just to them.

‍ ‍

Our mission

To close the loop on product lifecycles by maximising value recovery, minimising waste, and driving sustainable circular logistics.

Practically, that means helping businesses turn returns, excess and end-of-life products into renewed opportunities — through intelligent refurbishment, responsible recycling and transparent chain-of-custody management.

The outcome we're aiming at is a shift in how asset management gets treated internally: from a cost centre to a value-generating sustainability programme. Commercially, that looks like lower disposal costs, higher recovery value and less operational waste. Environmentally, it's waste diverted from landfill, reduced carbon impact and longer asset lifecycles. On governance, it's full chain of custody, real accountability and traceability, and data security you can evidence. Operationally, it's simply better visibility and simpler management.

Four objectives, one managed solution.
